The "Maternal and Child Liver Health Promotion Initiative" Programme

       In order to implement the requirement of "prevention is the most economical and effective health strategy, firmly implement the health and health work policy of prevention-oriented, adhere to constant preparation and shift the gateway of prevention", further help China's hepatitis B mother-to-child interruption and improve the liver health of women of childbearing age and newborns, on March 5, 2022, the China Union Liver Health Promotion Center On March 5, 2022, the  China Liver Health launched the "Maternal and Child Liver Health Promotion Action" Programme  in Beijing and Chongqing simultaneously, establishing a team of teachers nationwide and focusing on the five important life stages of women: marriage, pregnancy, childbirth and childbirth. The Programme  aims to disseminate hepatitis B prevention and control knowledge to women of childbearing age.

   Leaders from the CDC Bureau of the National Health Commission, experts from the WHO Representative Office in China, the Immunization Planning Centre of the China CDC, the  China Liver Health, Peking University Medical School, the Health Care Medicine Branch of the Chinese Society for Higher Education, Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, Beijing Youan Hospital, the Second Hospital Affiliated to Chongqing Medical University, representatives from the Programme 's public welfare supporter, North China Pharmaceuticals Jintan Bio, and more than 100 health care workers from More than 100 health care workers from hospitals, community health service centres and health centres in more than 20 districts and counties in Chongqing attended the two events and conducted academic exchanges.

   At the main venue in Beijing, the Honorary Chairman of the  China Liver Health, academician Zhuang Hui from Peking University Medical School and Professor Wei Lai jointly presented the appointment letters to seven experts, namely Cui Fuqiang (Professor of Peking University Medical School), Li Jie (Professor of Peking University Medical School), Li Haihong (Secretary General/Chief Physician of the Health Care Medicine Branch of the Chinese Higher Education Society), Liu Min (Professor of Peking University Medical School), Wang Fuzhen (Researcher of the Immunization Planning Centre of the Chinese CDC), Xu Xiaoyuan (Chief Physician/Professor of Peking University First Hospital) and Zhang Hua (Chief Physician/Professor of Beijing Youan Hospital). The seven experts, Xu Xiaoyuan (Chief Physician/Professor, Peking University First Hospital) and Zhang Hua (Chief Physician/Professor, Beijing You'an Hospital), were presented with the appointment letters for the "Maternal and Child Liver Health Promotion Initiative" Programme .

  At the Chongqing session, Mr Shen Yingsheng, Secretary of the China Liver Health, and Professor Hu Peng, Vice President of the Second Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, presented the "Maternal and Child Liver Health Promotion Initiative" Programme  expert panel to 12 health care workers from the maternal and child health care and immunization departments of Chongqing's primary health care institutions. 

 
Speech by Academician Zhuang Hui 

  Zhuang Hui, academician of Peking University School of Medicine, pointed out that women play an important role in the promotion of family health and prevention and control of hepatitis B from mother to child. Research data shows that promoting antiviral treatment for pregnant mothers with high hepatitis B viral load, timely and complete hepatitis B vaccination for newborns and the implementation of related medical measures can achieve near-zero mother- to-child transmission of hepatitis B and significantly reduce the number of hepatitis B infections among newborns in China in the future.

  Leaders from the National Health Commission's Disease Control Bureau fully affirmed the significance of the Programme . After years of efforts, the hepatitis B infection rate among children under five years of age in China has dropped to 0.32%, but to achieve a reduction to 0.1% by 2030, the whole society still needs to work together, based on early prevention, strengthening mother-to-child interruption and good vaccination. We hope that the "Maternal and Child Liver Health Promotion Initiative" will not only make good use of our existing experience and practices, but also actively explore new areas and methods and promote them to more places. 

 
Speech by Dr. Zhongdan Chen 

  Dr. Zhongdan Chen of the WHO Representative Office in China said in his speech that China has made outstanding contributions to global hepatitis prevention and treatment in terms of comprehensive prevention and control, control of mother-to-child transmission and expansion of testing and treatment. To achieve the global goal of eliminating the public health threat of viral hepatitis by 2030, more social participation and more forms of implementation are needed. We look forward to the continued promotion of the "Maternal and Child Liver Health Promotion Initiative" at the grassroots level to help women of childbearing age in China to successfully complete the important life course of "marriage, pregnancy and childbirth" and have healthy babies.

  Secretary Ma Dongjie introduced the efforts of North China Pharmaceutical, as a state- owned enterprise, to cooperate with many national institutions and help prevent and control hepatitis B in China, and expressed his confidence in supporting the Programme .

   Li Haihong, Secretary General of the Health Care Medicine Branch of the Chinese Society for Higher Education, said she was delighted to collaborate on the public welfare Programme  "Promoting Hepatitis Health in Women and Children". The promotion of hepatitis B prevention and control in colleges and universities will enable female students and teachers in colleges and universities to fully understand the importance of preventing and treating hepatitis B, to take the initiative in testing, to standardize vaccination, and to truly love themselves, their families and their future and have a happy life.

  In the academic presentation session, Professor Liu Min from Peking University School of Medicine and Researcher Wang Fuzhen from the Immunization Planning Centre of China CDC discussed the current situation of hepatitis B prevalence and prevention and control among women of childbearing age in China, the current situation of immunization and problems, and Professor Hu Peng, Vice President of the Second Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, explained the current situation of hepatitis B prevention and control among women of childbearing age in Chongqing and the Programme  implementation plan.   In the main venue in Beijing, experts discussed the implementation of the Programme  and Professor Cui Fuqiang presided over the discussion; in the Chongqing branch, Ms. Wang Qin from the Department of Preventive Health Care of Chunhui Road Street Community Health Service Centre in Dadukou District, as a representative of the grassroots expert group of the "Maternal and Child Liver Health Promotion Initiative", gave a demonstration lecture on community education micro-lessons, which was warmly welcomed and well received by the participating colleagues. Team leader Lili Ma introduces the Programme  arrangements 

  According to Ma Lili, the Programme  leader of the "Women and Children's Liver Health Promotion Initiative", the Programme  plans to use three years to recruit 5,000 grassroots community physicians to join the expert team nationwide and carry out hepatitis B popularisation work for 1.5 million women of childbearing age through a combination of offline micro-classes and online video numbers, with a focus on Guangdong, Henan, Jiangsu, Sichuan and Anhui provinces in 2022. The Programme  will be implemented in 20 provinces (cities), including Henan, Jiangsu, Sichuan and Anhui, in community health service centres.
