WHO and China Hepatitis C Guideline Training Session Held in Wuwei

On August 17th, 2019, the WHO and China hepatitis C guideline training session was held in Wuwei, co-sponsored by China Liver Health and Wuwei Tumor Hospital. More than 230 healthcare workers from over 10 hospitals in Wuwei and surrounding cities and counties participated in the training.

Prof. Wei Lai (chairman of China Liver Health), Dr. Chen Zhongdan from WHO Representative Office in China, secretary Liu Zhongfu from the National Center for AIDS/STD Control and Prevention under China CDC, consultant Liu Qing (director of the Division of Immunization Planning of Disease Prevention and Control Bureau under the National Health Commission), consultant Chen Ying (director of the Division of Disease Prevention and Control under the Health Commission of Gansu Province), deputy director Zhang Xuelong from the Health Commission of Wuwei, and director Li Mingyang from China Liver Health attended the training session.

The training session was chaired by Prof. Wei Lai, the chairman of China Liver Health and director of the Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Disease Center under Beijing Tsinghua Chang Gung Hospital. Deputy director Zhang Xuelong from the Health Commission of Wuwei addressed the conference on behalf of the hepatology circles in Wuwei. Director Chen Ying from the Health Commission of Gansu Province also delivered a speech.

Consultant Liu Qing, director of the Division of Immunization Planning of Disease Prevention and Control Bureau under the National Health Commission, expressed gratitude to liver disease experts for their efforts in eliminating hepatitis. He pointed out that eliminating hepatitis C was one of the major tasks in implementing Healthy China 2030 initiative. By actively integrating social resources to jointly promote hepatitis C screening, detection, prevention and treatment, China Hepatitis C Elimination Alliance Public Welfare Project would be an effective attempt for infectious disease prevention and control.

At the training session, Prof. Wei Lai first announced the Decision on Awarding Wuwei Tumor Hospital the Base Hospital of China Hepatitis C Elimination Alliance Public Welfare Project. He conferred the plaque to secretary Zhang Weihong and vice president Zhang Wenhua of Wuwei Tumor Hospital.

Secretary Liu Zhongfu from the National Center for AIDS/STD Control and Prevention under China CDC and Dr. Chen Zhongdan from WHO representative office in China interpreted the burden, prevention and control status and challenges of hepatitis C in China and worldwide respectively.

Secretary Liu Zhongfu introduced the epidemic status and prevention and control progress of hepatitis in China. 

Dr. Chen Zhongdan introduced the global strategy for viral hepatitis prevention and control.


Director Zhang Lingyi from Lanzhou University Second Hospital and president Zhang Wenhua from Wuwei Tumor Hospital gave lectures to the first-line doctors from the department of infectious disease, hepatology, gastroenterology and laboratory medicine, interpreting WHO hepatitis C guideline and discussing in depth the epidemic status of hepatitis C, antiviral treatment of special hepatitis C patients and how to easily and effectively clear hepatitis C virus.

Director Li Mingyang introduced the China Hepatitis C Elimination Alliance Public Welfare Project.

Li Mingyang, director of China Liver Health, said that, under the guidance of health commission of Gansu province and Wuwei city and other relevant authorities, the China Hepatitis C Elimination Alliance Public Welfare Project would carry out in-depth cooperation with local hospitals, provide supports for primary health care institutions to carry out health education for hepatitis C prevention and control in communities, provide help in the detection and diagnosis of high-risk groups so as to contribute to hepatitis C elimination in Wuwei.
