National Center for Fatty Liver held 2019 Annual Work Summary Meeting

The 2019 exchange work summary meeting and 2020 evaluation work kick-off meeting for the National Center for Fatty Liver was held in Hefei on Nov 15, 2019. This meeting was co-sponsored by China Liver Health and the fatty liver and alcoholic liver disease study group of the hepatology branch under Chinese Medical Association, and supported by China Resources Beimao Pharmaceutical Co.,Ltd. Zhuang Hui (academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering), Xu Xiaoyuan (chairman of the hepatology branch of the Chinese Medical Association), Prof. Nan Yuemin (chairman-designate of the hepatology branch of the Chinese Medical Association), Prof. Fan Jiangao, Prof. Zhao Jingmin, Prof. Xu Youqing, Prof. Rao Huiying and heads of 25 regional fatty liver centers nationwide attended the meeting.

At the meeting, Li Mingyang, director of China Liver Health, reviewed and summarized the exchange work of fatty liver centers in 2019, and demonstrated the work results from various dimensions including time, city, region, institutions and people involved and effect. Prof. Rao Huiying, the secretary-general of the fatty liver and alcoholic liver disease study group of the hepatology branch under Chinese Medical Association, introduced the 2020 evaluation work plan of fatty liver centers and proposed to strengthen the operation and development of fatty liver centers. Prof. Zhao Jingmin and Prof. Xu Youqing introduced existing problems in the construction of fatty liver centers and the evaluation criteria and rules of fatty liver centers, which induced fierce discussions among participants. Heads of fatty liver centers put forward valuable suggestions for the development and construction of fatty liver centers based on the operational performance of each center. At the end of the meeting, academician Zhuang Hui delivered a closing speech, affirming the achievements of the fatty liver and alcoholic liver disease study group in the field of fatty liver and expressing expectations for liver health centers from the perspectives of scientific research, discipline management, science popularization and mass education.

With the conclusion of the meeting, the work of fatty liver centers in 2019 has come to an end. In 2019, fruitful results have been scored. A total of 25 (21 completed) learning and exchange activities for fatty liver centers are held nationwide this year. During the event, dozens of experts actively publicize the diagnosis and treatment concept of fatty liver and the experience of fatty liver center construction. Participants in the event are mostly heads and discipline leaders from various institutions. Covering approximately 1,000 doctors from nearly 30 provinces in China, this event facilitates high-level and multi-disciplinary exchanges. The quality of life survey (QoL survey) in fatty liver patients is a project conducted by more than 100 fatty liver centers across the country. With the cooperation from multiple centers, the basic survey has been completed and relevant results will be produced. Through the cross-regional cooperation model, we have enhance the cohesion among regions and expect to produce more results in future cooperation. Moreover, fatty liver centers have also done a lot of work in health education for patients and training for primary healthcare workers.

The development of fatty liver centers results from the dedication of each member unit and relevant experts and personnel. We will make joint efforts to promote the development and construction of fatty liver center, enhance its influence, build a more professional brand, and further improve the diagnosis and treatment level of fatty liver.
