2019 World Hepatitis Day Publicity Conference held on July 26th, 2019 July 28th, 2019 is the 9th annual World Hepatitis Day. In response to the call of the World Health Organization (WHO) and under the deployment of National Heath Commission, 2019 World Hepatitis Day Publicity Conference was hosted by Chinese Foundation for Hepatitis Prevention and Control (CFHPC) and co-hosted by China Liver Health (CLH) at National Convention Center in Beijing. With focus on China’ publicity theme of World Hepatitis Day 2019, i.e. to comprehensively contain the harm of hepatitis with active prevention, detection and standardized treatment, the conference explored the status quo and countermeasures of hepatitis prevention and control in China from multi-dimensions and set off a wave of combatting hepatitis in the whole society. Experts attending the conference included Liu Xiaofeng (vice chairman of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and president of CFHPC), Dr. Gauden Galea (WHO representative in China), director Chang Jile and vice inspector Cui Gang from Disease Prevention and Control Bureau under National Health Commission, Yang Xizhong (executive vice president and secretary-general of CFHPC), Zhuang Hui (an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor of Peking University Health Science Center), Prof. Jia Jidong and Prof. Hou Jinlin (vice president of CFHPC), Prof. Wang Guiqiang (chairman of Chinese Society of Infectious Diseases, Chinese Medical Association), Prof. Xu Xiaoyuan (chairman of Chinese Society of Hepatology, Chinese Medical Association), Prof. Gao Zhiliang (chairman of Chinese Society of Infectious Disease Prevention and Control, Chinese Preventive Medicine Association), Li Mingyang (director of CLH) and others from CFHPC, Chinese Society of Infectious Diseases and Chinese Society of Hepatology, Chinese Medical Association. Besides, nearly 500 healthcare workers from across the country participated in the event. Viral hepatitis is a major health challenge worldwide and in China, with hepatitis B and C affecting 325 million people worldwide and leading to 1.4 million deaths each year. According to the Outline of National Notifiable Diseases Epidemic Status in 2018 released by the Disease Prevention and Control Bureau under National Health Commission, viral hepatitis ranks the first in terms of cases reported among all the class B notifiable infectious diseases in China. It is estimated that there are about 86 million people infected with hepatitis B virus and about 10 million people infected with hepatitis C virus in China. Every year, about 330,000 people die of liver cirrhosis and primary liver cancer caused by hepatitis B or hepatitis C infection. |
