On July 26th, the 2019 World Hepatitis Day Roundtable on Hepatitis Prevention and Control was held at National Convention Center in Beijing, aiming to promote various sectors of society to play an active role in the prevention and treatment of hepatitis. The conference was attended by Yang Xizhong (vice president and secretary-general of Chinese Foundation for Hepatitis Prevention and Control, CFHPC), Li Zengde (vice secretary-general of CFHPC), Kang Jiaqi (deputy director of CFHPC), Dr. Chen Zhongdan from the World Health Organization (WHO), research fellow Liu Zhongfu (party secretary of National Center for AIDS/STD Control and Prevention, China CDC), Li Mingyang (director of China Liver Health) and a number of famous clinical hepatologists such as Jia Jidong, Xu Xiaoyuan, Wang Hao, Xie Yao, Huang Yuan, Li Jie, and Tang Jianfen (a consultant from Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation in China). Representatives from Tencent Health, Liver Doctor, Beijing Evening News, North China Pharmaceutical Company, Furui Medical Science Company, Gilead, GlaxoSmithKline, Liver Department of Wu Jieping Medical Foundation and Shanghai Xintu Center for Community Health Promotion also attended the conference. Chaired by vice secretary-general Li Zengde, the conference carried out open discussions on three topics of hepatitis health education and social discrimination, hepatitis prevention and control, and difficulties in hepatitis screening, diagnosis and treatment, which were led by associate professor Li Jie, research fellow Liu Zhongfu and professor Jia Jidong respectively. Representatives from the World Health Organization, CDC system, medical institutions, pharmaceutical companies, media and social organizations expressed their opinions actively during the brainstorm. They introduced the work in progress and their respective advantages. In addition, specific suggestions were put forward on taking advantage of new media in health education, integrating prevention and treatment as a public health strategy, managing drug price and patient, improving diagnosis and treatment rate, promoting the subsidence of resources, combining Chinese traditional medicine and western medicine, and standardizing diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Chen Zhongdan summarized the discussion and proposed that it was necessary to increase financial input, adopt public health measures, draw lessons from the experience and mode of prevention and treatment of other diseases, emphasize the patient-oriented conception, simplify service process and improve prevention and control abilities of primary health care institutions. She said that WHO would be willing to provide support to all parties concerned to help China achieve the goal of hepatitis elimination. Vice president and secretary-general Yang Xizhong pointed out that China had achieved notable achievements in hepatitis prevention and control but was still faced with enormous challenges, particularly the significant impact of hepatitis B on the health of Chinese people. Therefore, it is necessary to unite all sectors of society and make joint efforts to strengthen patient screening and treatment under the guidance of the government so as to contribute to Healthy China initiative . |
