National Project for Liver Health Promotion launched in Gannan, Gansu

      Approved by the Ministry of Civil Affairs and supported by the central government, National Demonstration Project for Liver Health Promotion (No. B10) was launched in Gannan, Gansu province after its first stop in Shannan city of Tibet, on Oct 30, 2020. The project involved 100 primary and secondary schools in Tibetan region. Yang Zhiwen (deputy director-general of Education Bureau of Gannan Tibetan autonomous prefecture, Gansu province), Li Mingyang (director of China Liver Health), Ma Lili (project supervisor), Feng Bo from Peking University People’s Hospital, Zhuo Maji from Center for Disease Prevention and Control of Gannan Tibetan autonomous prefecture, Zheng Yanjie from Weihai Municipal Hospital, and other leaders and experts took part. North China Pharmaceutical Jintan Biotechnology Co., Ltd. provided support for the event.


      China Liver Health donated 1.032 million yuan’ worth of hand sanitizer, science books and other materials, as well as funds for hepatitis B screening and vaccination, to 50 primary and secondary schools in Gannan. Medical experts exchanged views with participating principals, school doctors and health counselors on liver disease prevention and treatment, psychological health of students and school safety skills. Director Li Mingyang presided over the event.

      Deputy director-general Yang Zhiwen delivered a speech and extended thanks to the project organizer for carrying out liver health promotion work and donating materials to primary and secondary schools in Gannan during 2019-2020. It is hoped that participating principals and teachers will attach more importance to students’ health, actively learn and grasp knowledge about the prevention and control of infectious diseases such as hepatitis, the maintenance of students' psychological health and basic first aid, and put those recommendations into practice based on the actual situation of schools.

      In knowledge and skill interactive exchange session, professor Feng Bo from Peking University People’s Hospital introduced the prevention and treatment of liver diseases. Director Zhuo Maji from Center for Disease Prevention and Control of Gannan Tibetan autonomous prefecture lectured on the prevention of liver cancer and hepatitis B. Professor Zheng Yanjie, member of the expert committee of Beijing Platinum Ten Minutes Time-effect Emergency Technology Research Academy, elaborated common safety problems at school and corresponding prevention plans and solutions.

      The participating principals and teachers actively interacted and said that they would bring the practical skills learned back to schools, improve health awareness of teachers and students, help students cultivate good health habits and promote physical and psychological health so as to  benefit more teachers and students and make contributions to building a moderately well-off society in an all-round way.

      Director Li Mingyang expressed gratitude to Education Bureau of Gannan Tibetan autonomous prefecture and relevant schools for their support and cooperation. The Liver Health Promotion Project is one of the 13 pilot projects to undertake social organization service approved by the Ministry of Civil Affairs and supported by the central government in 2020. Hosted and implemented by China Liver Health, it will carry out social services for health poverty alleviation in destitute areas of Shannan city of Tibet and Gannan of Gansu province, focusing on promoting school health and public health education in 100 primary and secondary schools and providing hepatitis B virus testing and vaccination for adolescents.
      In 2015, China Liver Health, in cooperation with China Pharmaceutical Culture Society, carried out Children's Liver Disease Relief and Physical and Mental Rehabilitation Demonstration Project in the old revolutionary base area of northern Shaanxi, with 1 million yuan allocated from the central government. In 2019, China Liver Health received two supporting funds from the central government totaling 1.6 million yuan and carry out Liver Health Promotion Project in Shannan city of Tibet and Gannan of Gansu province. Those two projects have trained 239 health counselors from 120 primary and secondary schools in the old revolutionary base of the west and in Tibet, supported the implementation of health education activities involving 54,399 teachers and students for 287 times, donated 1.09 million yuan worth of medical supplies, performed operations for 15 Tibetan children with hepatic echinococcosis for free, provided nutritional assistance for 500 children in need, and offered hepatitis B vaccination for 6,548 primary and secondary school students.
