The Fatty Liver and Alcoholic Liver Disease Study Group of Chinese Society of Hepatology of Chinese Medical Association (referred to as Study Group), announced evaluation results of 130 fatty liver centers in China. Six institutions including Xinhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine were awarded the title of China Outstanding Fatty liver Center. Third prize First People's Hospital of Foshan City Ye Yinong Third Hospital of Hebei Medical University Nan Yuemin Mengchao Hepatobiliary Hospital of Fujian Medical University Zhang Ping In 2017, with the support from China Liver Health and the Division of Prescription Drugs under China Resources Sanjiu Medical & Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., the Study Group successively set up 130 fatty liver centers in China, which carried out inspection and gave lectures in hospitals, organized training for grassroots physicians and health education for patients with fatty liver so as to promote management and treatment of fatty liver. Fatty liver centers organized visits and exchanges in Shanghai, Hangzhou and Foshan. In December 2019, the first round of evaluation of fatty liver centers was launched. From January to May 2020, 83 licensed fatty liver centers submitted self-assessment materials for written review by national experts in the field of fatty liver. During the first round of expert assessment from May to July, four groups of experts preliminarily selected 12 candidates for outstanding fatty liver center. Based on the differences in the development stages of various centers, experts put forward suggestions on the setup of the center, MDT (multi-disciplinary team) collaboration, strengthening scientific research capacity, carrying forward the characteristics of the center, and expanding influence on the grassroots. Of the 83 participating units, 18 scored higher than 90, accounting for 1/5 of the total. For the two unqualified centers with a score lower than 60, experts gave suggestions for rectification and improvement. It is hoped that those fatty liver centers can achieve better results in 2021. The public voting section last from July to August. Leaders and members of 12 candidate centers actively forwarded the information of the event, expanded the publicity of the project, and sought to win public support. A total of 39,700 votes were obtained, and the highest center received 6,867 votes. In mid-August, the second round of expert evaluation was organized. Based on the results of public voting, experts selected six hospitals as outstanding fatty liver centers by voting. Wei Lai, head of the Study Group and also chairman of China Liver Health, said that outstanding fatty livers would be encouraged to play a demonstration role in driving more centers to improve infrastructure and human capital, strengthening multidisciplinary cooperation, sharing achievements and integrating resources, carrying forward characteristics and learning from each other, expanding influence so as to jointly promote the prevention and treatment of fatty liver in China to a new level and provide more protection for the health of fatty liver patients. During the evaluation process, experts suggested carrying out evaluations in accordance with relevant guidelines or expert consensus, introducing evaluation indicators for diagnosis such as pathology, strengthening chronic disease management and health education. Those suggestions would be incorporated into the follow-up evaluation work. |
