Liver Health Promotion Demonstration Area Project Launched in Dong’e

A kick-off and training meeting of Liver Health Promotion Demonstration Area Project was held on August 12, in Dong’e county, Liaocheng city. Professor Nan Yuemin, representative of China Liver Health, delivered an online speech. Kang Dianmin (deputy director of Shandong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention), Jiang Xiangkun (party secretary and director of Liaocheng Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention), Su Yufeng (deputy head of Donga county government) and other leaders attended the launching ceremony.

Professor Nan Yuemin, chairman-designate of Chinese Society of Hepatology, Chinese Medical Association, delivered a speech.

The liver health promotion project is a public welfare project sponsored by China Liver Health, with approval from the Ministry of Civil Affairs and financial support from the central government. By carrying out epidemiological survey of hepatitis B among key populations, primary-level technical training for hepatitis B prevention and control, health education for residents and free testing in Dong’e county, the project aims to implement the Health in All Policies approach, widely publicize knowledge about viral hepatitis prevention and treatment, improve the public's awareness of protecting liver and urge the whole society to actively prevent, detect and treat hepatitis so as to comprehensively curb the harm of hepatitis.

China Liver Health donated 30,000 hepatitis B test kits.

Kang Dianmin noted that China had listed viral hepatitis as a major national disease for prevention and control, and formulated the National Viral Hepatitis Prevention and Control Plan. However, there is still a long way to go for hepatitis prevention and treatment. In the future, it is necessary to continue to focus on people’s health, further carry out in-depth health education and popularize knowledge about hepatitis prevention and control, strengthen leadership and raise the public’s awareness, adhere to the national hepatitis prevention and control strategy of putting prevention first and combining prevention with control, fully implement prevention and control measures, and jointly promote the Liver Health Promotion Project.

Jiang Xiangkun emphasized that the launching of Liver Health Promotion Demonstration Area Project in Dong’e county, as a result of close cooperation between Dong’e county and China Liver Health, deserved acknowledgement. By carrying out health popularization and free testing, it will contribute to achieving early prevention, early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment of hepatitis B. The exploration to establish a cooperative mechanism for viral hepatitis prevention and control, with leadership of the government, sponsorship from relevant institutions and participation by the whole society, is also worth learning. In terms of this project, Dong’e county will strengthen organization and cooperation, enhance team construction and technical training, timely solve existing problems and comprehensively summarize project experience.

Subsequently, China Liver Health and Dong'e county CDC held a donation ceremony. Kang Dianmin gave a lecture titled Interpretation of Technical Issues Related to Hepatitis B Vaccination.

The liver health promotion project jointly carried out by Dong'e county and China Liver Health is the first large-scale activity for chronic hepatitis B prevention, control and intervention among a large number of people in Liaocheng. In the future, Liaocheng will timely follow up the progress of the project and comprehensively summarize project experience so as to extract a working model integrating data, technology and measures and strive to extend it to the whole city.
