Hepatitis C Elimination Public Welfare Project Started in Jianping,Liaoning

The training session on Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Hepatitis C was held in Jianping, Liaoning province on March 24,2021. As one of the series of activities of the China Hepatitis C Elimination Alliance Public Welfare Project severed as the chief consultant by academician Zhuang Hui, the hepatology authority in China, the training session was held in Liao Ning province for the first time. The session was jointly hosted by China Liver Health, Liaoning Provincial Committee and Chaoyang Municipal Committee of Chinese Peasants And Workers Democratic Party(CPWDP), and Jianping County Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Gilead Sciences provided public welfare support.

Li Zhiwei and prof.Ding Yang from Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University, Yuan Yuan,former editorial department director of Journal of Practical Traditional Chinese Internal Medicine, Wang Ruiying,deputy chief of Jianping County, Yang Tian,party member of CPPCC Jianping committee, Yin Zhigang, director of the Science&Education&Culture&Health Committee of CPPCC Jianping committee,Fu Guohua,deputy director of Jianping Health Bureau, Li Zongfen,director of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of Jianping County,Yu Zuohua, vice chairman of Jianping County Hospital, director Li Mingyang, project supervisor Wang Fengjiao and Zhu Chunliu from China Liver Health attended the training session. Zhu Junming,director of Jianping Health Bureau presided over the meeting.

Viral hepatitis C (referred to as hepatitis C) is a blood-borne and sexually transmitted disease which can lead to severe diseases such as liver fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer, and cause heavy disease burden to the society and families. Hepatitis C can be completely cured with oral direct-acting antivirals (DAAs). In China, there are 10 million people infected with hepatitis C virus. However, due to the insidious onset, insufficient attention from patients, and the cognition lack of primary doctors to hepatitis C  and treatment and the medical insurance policies, most of them have not been detected and effectively treated. The training aims to promote the elimination of hepatitis C in China and to improve the rate of screening, diagnosis and treatment.

Yuan Xiujuan, full-time deputy chairman of CPWDP Liaoning Provincial Committee gave thanks to the experts for their efforts to promote eliminating hepatitis C in Jianping, Liaoning province. She said that eliminating hepatitis C is an important work for implementing the Health China 2030 plan. The China Hepatitis C Elimination Alliance Public Welfare Project integrated social resources to promote the hepatitis C screening,  and treatment, which was an effective attempt to prevent and control infectious diseases. 

Entrusted by China Liver Health, Dr. Chen Zhongdan from WHO Representative Office in China, Zhu Hang,deputy chairman of CPWDP Liaoning Provincial Committee, and Ren Dianzhi, full-time chairman of CPWDP Chaoyang Municipal Committee awarded Jianping CDC as a prevention and control base for China Hepatitis C Elimination Alliance Public Welfare Project, and awarded The Fourth Hospital of Chaoyang and Jianping County Hospital as diagnosis and treatment bases for China Hepatitis C Elimination Alliance Public Welfare Project. Director Li Zongfen, chairman Li Qiong,vice chairman Yu Zuohua accepted the plaques and were awarded as members of national expert committee for liver health promotion.

Director Li Zhiwei and Ding Yang from Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University interpreted the Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Hepatitis C in China and convenient and efficient hepatitis C elimination respectively.

Wang Fengjiao from China Liver Health said that, under the guidance of relevant institutions of Liaoning, Chaoyang and Jianping, the China Hepatitis C Elimination Alliance Public Welfare Project, would carry out in-depth cooperation with local disease control and medical associations, provide supports for primary healthcare institutions to carry out health education for hepatitis C prevention and control in communities, and provide help in the detection and diagnosis of high-risk groups so as to contribute to eliminating hepatitis C in Jianping.


The China Hepatitis C Elimination Alliance Public Welfare Project is sponsored by China Liver Health and co-organized by the Research Center of Infectious Diseases of Peking University, Chinese Foundation for Hepatitis Prevention and Control,Peking University Hepatology Institute, Chinese Society of Hepatology of Chinese Medical Association, Chinese Society of Infectious Diseases of Chinese Medical Association, Hepatology Institute of Jilin Province, Virtual Community of Hepatitis C, and Health Times of People’s Daily. It aims to promote the diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis C, implement the National Viral Hepatitis Prevention and Control Plan (2017-2020), and cooperate with the WHO to reach the strategic goal of eliminating the public health threat of viral hepatitis by 2030.
