Free Hepatitis C Testing Public Welfare Activity Conducted in Dayi County

On March 18th, 2019, the 19th National Protect Liver Day, the China Hepatitis C Elimination Alliance Public Welfare Project launched public welfare activities of health education on liver health in some districts and counties of Chengdu.

Activities first began in Caichang town and Shang'an Town of Dayi county from March 18th to 26th. Under the organization of Yixiu Social Work Service Center and with the assistance from local health center, healthcare workers conducted health education on hepatitis C prevention and treatment, carried out consultation and free hepatities C test for residents in surrounding communities. More than 200 people received free hepatitis C antibody (anti-HCV) tests. Blood of antibody-positive residents were collected at the scene to further perform free HCV nucleic acid testing. Those confirmed cases were sent to hepatitis C medical insurance designated hospitals in Chengdu for further treatment.

Director Li Mingyang from China Liver Health introduced that Chengdu Human Resource and Social Security Bureau issued the Notice on Issues Concerning Classified Payment of Medical Insurance for Outpatient Treatment of Hepatitis C on November 5th, 2018. According to the notice, for patients covered by Urban Employee Basic Medical Insurance scheme and Urban and Rural Resident Basic Medical Insurance scheme in Chengdu, drug expenses can be reimbursed at 60% to 80%, and diagnosis and treatment expenses can be reimbursed according to outpatient special diseases. The China Hepatitis C Elimination Alliance Public Welfare Project activity launched in Chengdu is just a good opportunity to promote this favorable policy to benefit citizens as soon as possible, to help patients actively detect and cure hepatitis C as soon as possible, and to contribute to hepatitis C elimination in this city as soon as possible.
